Subtitled Tuesday: 'The Brand New Testament'
During the summer, screenings at Cinema Europa's main hall (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) will have English subtitles next to the Croatian.
On July 12th (Tuesday) our program 'Subtitled Tuesday' will present 'The Brand New Testament' (Croatian title: 'Potpuno novi zavjet') at 8:30 pm.
'The Brand New Testament' is a black comedy film written, produced and directed by Belgian author Jaco Van Dormael. "A religiously incorrect but irresistibly funny work of the imagination" (The Hollywood Reporter) follows the story of a God himself, who lives in Brussels as a coward with pathetical morals. His 10-year-old daughter decides to revolt against her dad and make a 'brand new testament'. The ensable cast includes Benoit Poelvoorde as God and Catherine Deneuve as one of the new disciples, among others. The film premiered at the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Belgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film (it was among 9 shortlisted titles).
