On April 28 our regular screening program 'Subtitled Tuesdays' (with both English and Croatian subtitles included) will present 'In the Basement' (orig. title: 'Im Keller'; Croatian title: 'U podrumu'), a new Ulrich Seidl's documentary film.

This film seeks to depict Austrian's relationships with their basements and to define the specificities of Austrian basements; film both unearths answers and throws up new questions, thereby shedding light on the hidden underground.

On April 21 our regular screening program 'Subtitled Tuesdays' (with both English and Croatian subtitles included) will present a documentary film 'The Look of Silence' (Croatian title: 'Pogled tišine') by Joshua Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer's powerful companion piece to the Oscar-nominated 'The Act of Killing' won the grand jury prize at the 2014 Venice Film Festival, among other awards. 

The screening starts at 9:10 pm.

On April 7 our regular screening program 'Subtitled Tuesdays' (with both English and Croatian subtitles included) will present 'Zagreb Cappuccino' by Croatian directress Vanja Sviličić.

Sviličić's debutant feature film follows a story about two best female friends in their early 40s. Over a couple of cups of cappuccino and a night out, we get to know their fears, burdens and inner strengths.

The screening starts at 7:00 pm.

On Wednesday, 8 April, Cinema Europa is celebrating a big anniversary: 90 years of its opening! On 8 April 1925 the cinema in Varšavska 3 opened its doors; in the next 90 years it will build and maintain the role of a cult venue dedicated to select examples of world and European independent cinema. This important birthday will be appropriately celebrated - with films! Our birthday Wednesday begins in the early afternoon with a series of free screenings at both theatres.
